Ban on trophy hunting bad for community trusts

MAUN: A study intended to guide the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) on the looming hunting ban, advices that there should not be an abrupt end to the practice.

The report ‘A Study of the Contribution of Sustainable Natural Resource Management to Economic Growth, Poverty Eradication and Achievement of NDP 10 Goals’, calls for gradual withdrawal of trophy hunting so as to allow the affected communities to adapt to the change.

“As a minimum, the loss of trophy hunting revenue should be brought in gradually over a sufficient period to allow communities to adapt,” reads the report.
