The general president for Southern African Assemblies of God Alliance (SAAGA) Reverend Dr Gordon Lebelo said he is worried about high numbers of false prophets who have commercialised churches.

Speaking during the official opening of Gaborone Assemblies of God new sanctuary, Lebelo said some people are using the name of God to enrich themselves. The construction cost of the sanctuary stood at P 15 million upon completion. The building will accommodate 800 people though it had initially wanted to accommodate 1,200 people.

“The church is a place to worship not a business place. Some false prophets are swindling poor people their last money to prophesise them. This is tarnishing churches. The prophesy from God will never be paid for, even a prayer. It’s time our churches stand up and criticise some of these things. I urge Assemblies of God pastors not to practise such. The new sanctuary should be the house of the Lord, not a place where money is made,” Lebelo said.
