Independence day turned into misery for a 39-year-old man who lost part of his ear after having a misunderstanding with an old male friend.

The victim and the accused, 49, were enjoying traditional beer (khadi) when a quarrel allegedly started between the two of them.

Letlhakane police superintendent Michael Maphephu confirmed that they are investigating an incident in which a 39-year-old man lost a piece of his right ear after another tore it off with his teeth.
