Renowned American choreographer to facilitate dance workshops in Gabs

Seasoned American dance choreographer Reyna Joy Banks will facilitate a number of dance workshops at Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) starting today until next week.

Banks has worked alongside a number of international artists such as Usher Raymond, Toni Braxton, Justin Bieber and Beyonce Knowles. She is an expert in a variety of dance styles and techniques, which include hip-hop, ballet, contemporary, modern and jazz.

Speaking to Showbiz Dreams Alive Club program coordinator, Tshepiso Maruping, said the Dance Alive Pro Workshops have been organised for young, and old semi skilled and skilled dancers.

“These will be a series of workshops for different target groups, it will cater to people of various ages, backgrounds, dance abilities and dance styles, and it will be the first event of it’s kind in Gaborone. It will become an annual event,” she said.

Maruping further said that the workshop is divided into three categories which are ‘Fun With Dance’, a beginner’s program for schools, students, general public, all dance enthusiasts, ‘Dance2livvv’ master class, which is a faith based, purpose-driven program for dance ministries and churches and the ‘Dance Alive Professionals’, which is an expert training program, for performing artists, industry specialists/trainers and aspiring performers.

 “Reyna is an internationally acclaimed choreographer, entertainer and has an amazing portfolio and professional experience having worked with artists such as Beyonce Knowles and Usher Raymond,” she said.

Maruping added that the choreographer would add a massive impetus to the local dance community.

Besides the Dance Alive Pro workshops, Banks will visit one orphanage (yet to be disclosed) in Gaborone.

Banks has performed on notable platforms such as the Grammy Awards, BET Awards and the Billboard Awards. She has also featured in a number of screenplays such as Nickelodeon’s hit show Victorious.
