FRANCISTOWN: Tutume-born Modeline Mbaakanyi was crowned Miss Independence 2013 on Sunday morning at a poorly attended show held at the Francistown Civic Centre. The 19-year-old unemployed girl shrugged off stiff competition from 14 contestants to emerge at the top. The first princess was 18-year-old Gape Kgaotsi from Majwaneng while Goitseone Monametsi (25) was crowned second princess.

A woman from the audience said she has never attended such a poorly organised beauty pageant like the Miss Independence Francistown.

She charged that the deserving girls have been deliberately sidelined from making it to the top five because the show was not to choose the most beautiful contestant.
