Hip-hop music veteran, Lebogang Mpelega who used to be a household name in the local music scene is back from hibernation. The rapper has rebranded from Lex and goes by sobriquet Kgwarela.

To announce his return, he has released a new single titled Dudu which features talented Afro Pop singer, Lizibo. The song was released on February 3 and it is one of the tracks that would be included in his upcoming album called Mpho-The Gift.

The single was produced, recorded and mixed by Tshepo Lesole at Hi Note Studios in Gaborone. DMongz Music from South Africa mastered it.

“Dudu is a song inspired by my personal situation of always trying in relationships and finally getting the one who was patient enough to stick around until marriage,” Kgwarela explained.

“It’s a love story with a happy ending. This song is part of my upcoming album titled Mpho- The Gift,” he added.  Kgwarela said he is back in the industry and promised his fans nothing but the best music.

He said the single entails a more mature sound and growth. He will  also work with a live band to make his music even more appealing to his fans.

Born in Mochudi on November, 7 1980, the Serowe native grew up most of his life in Francistown where he did most of his formal education.

Growing up in a strict Christian family explains why he ended up doing music and most of all hip hop/motswako.

He said his hip-hop journey started in 1996 when he got together with his friends and formed a group known as Tha Blacklordz, a four-member outfit that used to compete in Francistown Talent Search.  Although they didn’t win any of the competition the seed had been planted. As the years went by and the members grew up, they also went separate ways.

“In 2001, whilst in school at University of Northwest in Mafikeng I continued to write music in my spare time but nothing really came of it as I was a very shy person by nature. The real step came in 2005 when I schooling at Durban,” he said.

“That was when I met and became great friends with HHP’s DJ, Lemonka.

I started performing all over Durban with now big acts such as Big Nuz, Teargas, Malaika and at some point I was the only opening act for Mafikizolo when they first came out as a solo artist at Durban.”

Back home he featured in BK Proctors Mixtape Vol one where he had a smash hit Ke Fitlhile and the track Punches in the Dark which later became a soundtrack to the Mma Ramotswe short story.

His first album Morongwa was a big hit and was was greatly received, something that introduced him to the masses.

His second album Based On True Stories(BOTS) etched his name in the hearts of many and the tracks on the album are all bangers.

He has done and worked with all household names in  Botswana. An IT Infrastructure Officer with Botswana Geoscience Institute, Kgwarela is the owner of Chaba Music, a talent search and artiste management firm.
