After winning the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) Townhall and Roadshow title, Wada has finally released an EP titled, Oratile.

In an interview, with Arts&Culture, she said she has recorded a self-titled Extended Play (EP) called Oratile. She explained that the title name comes from her name Wada, a Kalanga name which means Oratile. The EP is scheduled for release on Valentine’s Day (February 14, 29025). She added that the leading single from the EP titled More would be released before the end of January.

“This EP was produced in June 2024, courtesy of DJ Fresh and the DBS Roadshow. We spent a week writing, producing and recording the work here in Gaborone. The whole concept and message around the EP is ‘Love’ in its entirety, the purity, the beauty and the pain of it all. I did not collaborate with anyone for this first project. I wanted to just really introduce my sound in its purest form,” she said confidently. She further explained that she had two special people who made a small but meaningful appearance in the project being her grandmother and long-time Jamaican friend, Dwayne Wellington. Wada said music has always been an innate calling for her. As such, she also said she had no choice because music always circled back to her.

Wada added that having won the DBS road show in October 2024, she was introducing herself to the local music industry with that project and promised she would have more to tell in a few months. She explained that to her, music was self-expression saying everyone has different stories to tell. She added that even if it was the same story, people had different ways to portray them. She said her music was really as it told a story through her eyes saying she sings to the soul and not the ears. “As an artist, I have grown to understand myself as a human being, and really believe I am who God says I am. My growth has really been constantly in trying to walk to my purpose and discovering everyday path I have chosen to follow. Challenges I have faced in my music career, I have taken them as lessons and blessings in disguise. So far I do not really have anything to complain about,” she said.

Moreover, she said her music was growing and moving in a beautiful direction. She added that the whole world was looking at Africa and its strong musical influence. She also said the world was listening to their music and therefore African artists were surely delivering. Wada’s EP is available on all streaming platforms as Wada on iTunes, Spotify and others.

Morwaeng’s rants: Leaders must listen

Kabo Morwaeng, a senior BDP figure known for always defending the President and also sent to do some shocking stuff in his capacity as a Minister, has defended the former Cabinet against claims it failed to advise ex-president Mokgweetsi Masisi, contributing to the party’s defeat. While he insists Cabinet discussions are “secret” and that the President holds “enormous power,” his defence misses a crucial point: Batswana deserve leaders...
