The Botswana Electronic Music Festival BEMF was beneficial to upcoming artists despite being marred by a bad publicity and people threatening to boycott it.

Before the event, there was a music workshop hosted by BEMF and Red Bull Music Academy. The workshop, which was held at Westwood International School, had artists such as DJ Gouveia, Sibot, Ryan Murgatroyd and Okmalumkoolkat. Artists DJ Gouviea, Sibot, Ryan Murgatroyd and Okmalumkoolkat are currently at the top of their game and a number of young people look up to them as their musical mentors.

The artists touched on a number of musical and production issues, also sharing their views and advising upcoming musicians. They mainly advised their charges to focus on establishing a sound of their own.
