The pollution of the city’s main wetland, the Tati River compounds the environmental story of the City of Francistown, which around 1867 experienced a first gold rush when gold was first discovered along the Tati River. The miners have unfortunately, left dangerous and unrehabilitated mining sites around the city. FRANCISTOWN: At the Department of Environmental Affairs in Francistown, District environment coordinator, Phillip Sandawana and his team are working overtime in an endeavour to come up with an effective solution to a plethora of troubles bedevilling the Tati River.

Chief on their list of priorities is to engage about 25 ward development committees as their stakeholders and hand the rehabilitation projects to the communities around the city.
