Craft production

With Christmas just around the corner and with probably just enough of the population thinking of buying presents - this practice not being a part of the national cultural scene - there may be sufficient excuse to extend my little chat with Rampholo Molefhe about craft production and craft marketing.

And how much I appreciate that opportunity because those occasions come around only rarely.

I must say first off, however, that I was thoroughly alarmed by his observation that 'the basket weavers in the north are barely surviving' - which I could not previously have known.   Information of this kind is normally in desperately short supply - apart from periodic concerns expressed about the increased scarcity of the mokolwane palm - and the general assumption being that the basket makers are doing rather well for themselves.
