Parliament must support the Ombudsman

How serious is Parliament about the performance of the public service?

As members of the public whose will it is the duty of Parliament to express, we have the right to know why our Legislature seems reluctant to support structures established to ensure best practice in service delivery.

The Ombudsman is one such body.  From the latest annual report by the Office of the Ombudsman, it is clear that the interest of Parliament in the performance of the public service is akin to blowing wind into a cymbal.  For why should Parliament, after so many requests to have a select committee to examine the Ombudsman's reports, still have no such structure in place?
