PlatinumShield Insurance Group has introduced to the market a pioneering standalone funeral plan that is designed to help families honour their loved ones with dignity and ease.

The new product, PlatinumShield Tombstone Cover, offers memorial tributes valued between P10, 000 and P50, 000, ensuring that financial constraints never stand in the way of proper remembrance. The product, underwritten by WestLife Insurance Botswana, is tailored for all segments of society from corporate professionals to the unbanked, the cover reflects Botswana’s deeply rooted multi-generational family structures. The plan extends coverage to spouses, extended family members, parents, and parents-in-law, offering transparent benefits and flexible entry requirements. Principal members and spouses can join between the ages of 18 and 70, while children are covered up to 21 years, and extended family and parents can be included up to 85 years. In the event of a valid death claim, beneficiaries receive a once-off payout for tombstone procurement and installation.

WestLife Insurance Botswana CEO, Kgomotso Ratlhaga, described the product as insurance with purpose, highlighting its role in preserving dignity during times of grief. “This is insurance that recognises the sacred responsibility we bear in protecting what matters most,” she said at the launch of the new product. “Too many families face financial burdens when providing dignified memorials during already difficult times. The PlatinumShield Tombstone Cover addresses this gap with a concrete, accessible and affordable solution.” PlatinumShield CEO, Keenetswe Tshomane, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the emotional and cultural significance of memorialisation.
