New pathways: Debswana is shifting strategy but the mines remain core for now and into the near future

The country’s largest company by contribution to GDP, Debswana Diamond Company, is seeking to sweat off non-core assets in a bid to whip its books into shape.

Executives within the diamond giant revealed that the newly launched Ya Masa strategy is meant to usher in investments in new asset classes while also getting rid of those that do not meet the portfolio needs of the company currently.

Speaking during the recent Future of Mining Summit, executives revealed that some identified assets include schools under the company’s care which are not necessarily for profit but are no longer aligned with the future shape of the company.
