Internet prices will not be cut by half - ISPs

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) say while wholesale internet prices provided by the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) have been reduced by 59 percent, the most users can hope for is a 15 percent drop in their charges.

In a statement yesterday, the Botswana Internet Service Providers Association (BISPA) accuses BTC of  'creating false expectations in the market' with its recent statement that wholesale internet prices would be cut by 59 percent.

The ISPs, who purchase internet services wholesale from the BTC and on-sell to consumers, say various other factors in the business model meant the eventual price cut would be between 10 and 15 percent.
