In an interview with Monitor Business, BMWU general secretary, Mbiganyi Ramokate, said they are worried by Moolmans’s decision to retrench workers while negotiations between them and the company were still ongoing.
“The mine has an agreement with us in which whenever there is a retrenchment there are certain procedures to be followed before it (retrenchment) can proceed. Negotiations with the company to address issues of job losses and coming up with better packages are not yet complete. We are however shocked to hear that employees have been served with letters while our negotiations are still ongoing,” he said.
