Gambling Authority to set up rehabilitation facility

The Gambling Authority is planning to build a rehabilitation facility for gambling addicts as part of the efforts to encourage responsible gambling.

The rehabilitation facility will be built using the 15 percent monthly levy paid by the operators. Botswana has nine licensed casinos: three in Gaborone, two in Selebi-Phikwe and Francistown and one in Jwaneng and Lobatse.

According to the authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Tulisizwe Johnson they have a mandate to promote responsible gambling, noting that they were planning to build the facility that would rehabilitate excessive gamblers from becoming addicts.
