Beverage prices rise highest within food basket

Statistics Botswana has revealed that prices of tea, coffee and cocoa have climbed the fastest in the past 12 months among the 11 food categories measured by data agency.

According to the latest consumer price index figures, tea, coffee and cocoa prices by June, had risen by 6.1% from their levels last June, while milk, milk products and cheese prices had climbed 2.3% over the same period. 

Mmegi has learnt that prices of soft drinks, mineral water and fruit juices had risen by 1.4% in the year to June, while alcoholic beverage prices had climbed 0.3% over the same period, the low figure attributable to the non-adjustment of the alcohol levy.
