The Parlotones set to rock Gabs

The Parlotones, US-based South African rock band, is billed to headline a gig this Friday at the Game City Roof Terrace.

The quartet of Kahn Morbee (vocals), Paul Hodgson (guitar), Glen Hodgson (bass) and Neil Pauw (drums) is expected to belt out numbers from its latest album, Stand Like Giants. One of the organisers of the event, Justice Ditlhong told Showbiz yesterday that part of the proceeds from the event would go to the Remmogo Charity Ride. "We will have over 250 kids from different organisations on Saturday who will have the opportunity to play at Lions Park," he said.Supporting acts are locals, Skin Flint and Kamp 14.Skin Flint is reportedly on the brink of touring Europe. He said The Parlotones' relocation to the US influenced the ticket pricing of P450 for a standard ticket and P800 for the VIP section ticket where food and drinks will be served. He said the band is now in South Africa promoting the new album.

"The growth we saw in the band ever since they performed here motivated us to bring them back here again.  They are also loved by many here now that they are known even internationally," he said.Ditlhong said no South African band has had as big an impact as The Parlotones, citing how Coldplay handpicked the outfit as an opener for their gigs in Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2011."Last year they staged an original rock theatre production which was broadcast live around the world in 3D and they have a history of performing to an audience of a billion. They are really a crowd puller," he said. The Parlotones have three studio albums, which have racked up numerous platinum, gold certificates and South African Music Awards.  Their three live CD/DVD packages have cemented their reputation as a fiery force to be reckoned with onstage.
