Art brings peace of mind to Dukwi refugees

Dukwi refugees are showcasing their art works at the Thapong Visual Arts Centre in Gaborone. The exhibition, that opened last week Thursday, came as a result of combined efforts by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Botswana and Thapong to showcase such an exhibition.

Dukwi refugee camp, home to some 4,000 refugees, is alive with a myriad of people from various African cultures hailing from 14 different African nations.

The UNHRC has observed that art provides great cathartic value to the refugees' psychosocial needs and acts as an opportunity for them to release their emotional burdens as it can provide therapeutic emotional and spiritual healing.
