Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) has sent a strong team to compete at the 43rd Chess Olympiad taking place in Batumi, Georgia from September 23 to October 6. The team flies out today, with high hopes of an improved performance at the global competition.

One of the squad members, FIDE Master Phemelo Khetho said the team is the strongest ever that BCF has ever sent to Olympiad in terms of ratings.

“We had the longest camp, which was six weeks and we had two Grandmasters (GM). We spent six hours in training for the last five weeks. The training was massive. If you train together as a team, you gel. One hand does not clap but two hands produce a sound,” he said. Khetho said the team is targeting category medals, titles and rankings.
