Phiri was happy they bagged the three points although the performance worries him.

“Despite the fact that we have won, we didn’t play well,” he said. “We are still struggling to get to our fluid best and I am afraid we still need to work extra harder. The defence is lacking and there is no command but we are happy with maximum points today, that is what is important,” Phiri said.

It took 13 minutes for ECCO to create a meaningful opportunity when Bongkgonne Mathare sent through Bangwe Modongo, with the goalkeeper to beat. The striker lacked composure and poked the ball over the crossbar. Tigers were chasing the game and when they created half chances they were wasteful. The opening goal came in the 34th minute. Modongo received a pass in front of the box, turned the defenders and set up Jaffel Zhinyuka who picked his spot and calmly prodded into the top left.

After the break, Mamoja Diskie continued with their hot and cold display. They had three chances in the opening minutes but were wasteful. Tigers had a brief spell from the hour mark that ended with a penalty. They had three shots saved in a space

of a minute before Ononofile Setsiba’s shot into the packed Mamoja box was handled and the referee pointed to the spot. Meshack Mahamba’s penalty kick was saved. In the 81st minute, Mamoja scored their second goal. From a Bakang Malabola corner, Victor Pueng rose highest and redirected his header into the near post. It could have been three in the dying minutes but Mathare’s shot hit the upright. Tigers struggled and made numerous mistakes but the flaccid Mamoja could not punish them.

Tigers coach, Lolo Mosojane was equally disappointed. “We could have done better but instead we did the opposite of everything we had planned,” he said. “I am disappointed after two great displays in our past two games. We were too low.” In other games Motlakase cut the lead at the top of the log to one point with a 3-1 win against TASC. Log leaders BR Highlanders were held to a 1-1 draw by Sua Flamingoes. Satmos woes continued in Selebi-Phikwe where they narrowly went down 3-2 to GNT while Chobe United beat Real Movers 2-1. In the only Sunday encounter, TAFIC won 2-1 against Morupule Wanderers to keep in touch at the top.
