BLLAHWU decries relocation of primary healthcare

The Botswana Land Boards, Local Authorities and Health Workers Union (BLLAHWU) has alleged that the movement of primary healthcare to the Ministry of Health has weakened District Health Management Teams (DHMTs). In a statement, BLLAWHU secretary general Ketlhalefile Motshegwa charged that the transition has reduced DHMTs into mere messengers who are no longer pivotal in the health care dispensation.

“DHMTs heads are powerless and thus mere messengers conveying messages to headquarters,” he said. 

Motshegwa said the state of clinics left a lot to be desired. He termed the movement from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development the “genesis of problems for the local healthcare sector”.
