A political launch for parliamentary independent candidate for Gaborone South, Dumezweni Meshack Mthinkhulu, took a different twist when his hundreds of supporters scrambled for food and ended up going home on empty stomachs on Saturday night.

In the ensuing struggle at Tshwaragano Primary School in Old Naledi where the meal was prepared and served, all the food fell on the ground. This did not deter the hungry youngsters and elderly supporters of Mthinkhulu. Some of the school going pupils and elders were seen picking up the food from the ground to have a taste.

Some went for the three big pots to salvage the little that was left inside. One elderly supporter was heard saying: “Waitse batho ba Zola le tlhabisa ditlhong”, meaning that people of Zola are a disgrace. Zola is a popular name referring to Old Naledi. In this melee the tables in one of the classrooms that was turned into a serving point, were left turned upside down and vandalized.
