The commencement date for the highly anticipated Women’s First Division League remains unconfirmed despite the local women’s football having had received more than $289,000 (approximately P4 million) in funding from FIFA.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tariq Babitseng, revealed the association had secured unprecedented backing to support efforts towards professionalising women’s football.

“FIFA has committed substantial funding to the growth of women’s football. One key highlight is the approved $298,000 specifically dedicated to launching our National Women’s League, a historic investment into elite competition," said Babitseng at the Gaborone United Ladies team or Red Roses’ COSAFA Women’s Champions League victory celebration and welcome session.
