Showa was thrust into the position after BFL chairperson, Peter Kesitilwe quit on a chaotic week for football that also saw chief executive, Bennett Mamelodi follow suit. The BFL Annual General Assembly (AGA) held in Palapye on Saturday precipitated the resignations after tense discussions at the meeting brought Mamelodi's future under the spotlight. Mamelodi tendered his resignation on Tuesday but will remain in the post for a month whilst serving notice. But despite the fallout, Showa has said they will endeavour to get league action underway on August 15 as initially planned. "We expect the season to start as scheduled and are working hard to ensure that this happens," Showa said.
Draft fixtures have been circulated to clubs, but there are reports that these could be revised. The Palapye meeting also discussed the status of the Betway sponsorship, which was rejected by the clubs. The gambling company offered P1.5 million to occupy the sleeves of all team's jerseys, but the clubs felt the amount was too little. Showa said the issue remains under discussion and further updates will be provided. "An update on the matter will be provided in due course as engagements between the two parties are ongoing," Showa said. Further, the BFL will also update on the appointment of a substantive board chairperson and chief executive.
