From passionate calls for national glory to honest reflections on personal limitations and family duties, the voices of ordinary Batswana reveal a city united in spirit, even when not everyone can be present in the stadium. This landmark event marks more than a sporting competition; it represents a historic milestone for African athletics and a moment of collective aspiration for an entire nation. “I’m very excited about the coming relays that are being hosted here in our city, Gaborone, the first African country to host this kind of event. It’s one of the exciting moments for us as Botswana. Unfortunately, I won’t be there, but I had hoped to be there during the relays so that I could see other athletes compete against our boys here in Botswana. I’m rooting for Team Botswana to win the medals.”
