Tebogo smashes 100m record

Letsile Tebogo has set the national record after stopping the clock at 10.11 in the men’s 100m semifinal during the ongoing World Under-20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.

He bettered his own record of 10.14 set in February. Tebogo is dominating his races at the championships after clocking the fastest time in the semifinal. He had run 10.22 during the 100m heat. Tebogo went to Kenya with a personal best of 10.14 and is now favourite for the gold medal when the 100m final is run tomorrow at 4:30 pm local time. Another local athlete, Jayson Mandoza finished in position six in the semi-final with a personal best of 10.54 but failed to progress to the final. It was also the end of the road for Boitshepiso Kelapile who clocked 12.16 to finish seventh in 100m.

Despite recording her season’s best (SB), the 19-year-old is out of the competition. Anthony Pesela has qualified for the 400m semifinal after winning the heat, reaching the finish line in 45.88. The 400m semifinal is on Friday with the final coming on Saturday. Pesela and Tebogo are gold medal contenders.
