FRANCISTOWN: The Francistown derby between FNB Premiership log leaders, TAFIC and Chadibe FC on Saturday night attracted a large crowd, nearly resulting in a stampede.

The match started an hour later because of the overcrowding leading to spectators pushing through the gates. The incident raised safety concerns with TAFIC coach, Elias Chinyemba, urging fans to arrive early for their games in order to prevent needless delays. Chinyemba told SportMonitor that from the position he was seated, he thought something disastrous would have occurred because the supporters were pushing one another, which is bad for football. “We have a strong technical team and have studied sport science, so we understood what to do in the event of an hour-long delay," he said.

Chinyemba also urged their supporters to attend the final important games in full spirit. He stated that the team's performance is boosted by the fans' support and they pledge to bring home the trophy. Speaking about the match, he stated that they knew, going into the game that they would be the first ones to score. He said they had plenty of opportunities and could have scored more than three goals, particularly in the first half session. According to Chinyemba, their strategy of widening goal difference was successful. He said they are a confident side and have faith in themselves which will yield results. He revealed that he conducted a casual team talk before the game and instructed them to go have fun. He said that since they finished on 38 points last season and are currently at 35 points, they are more concerned with breaking their own records and are not under any other pressure. Chinyemba said that the team is looking forward to their next match against Township Rollers on Wednesday and they will give it their best.
