Botswana Football Association (BFA) has until 5pm today to submit it's bid documents for the August 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

This follows the Confederation of African Football (CAF)'s extension of the deadline from the end of August to September 14, 2026, for candidates bidding to host the 2028 edition of the continental tournament. Botswana has expressed interest to submit a joint bid with South Africa and Zimbabwe as it seeks to host the tournament for the first time in its history. The government is required to provide surety as a guarantor, while the BFA is confident it will have all the necessary documents in place before today's deadline. In 2024, Botswana was unsuccessful in its bid to host the 2027 AFCON, which was eventually awarded to the East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
