Despite head coach, David 'Lefty' Botlhasitse's desperate attempt to recruit a forward, Security Systems have failed to find their man as the transfer window shut last night.
Systems are enduring one of their worst campaigns in recent years as they find themselves hovering just a point above the relegation spot. The team has won only twice in the last 10 games and it has just three victories with 16 rounds of the FNB Premiership games played. The latest of the defeats was against Township Rollers in a 1-0 loss last Sunday. This is despite the team having equal chances as Rollers, in some moments of the game, and being unlucky not to get anything from the tie. Botlhasitse is of the view that the team has been playing well despite poor form and what is lacking is a goalscorer. He said the team was in full hunt for a striker before yesterday's transfer window deadline. He said the team has been working on finishing for a while now and it is still a mystery why his striking force is still misfiring.
The head coach revealed that the performances during training are well below what he sees during match days. He, however, lauded the team's build-up play. "I would be lying if I said I am happy (with the squad). As you can see, we need someone who can put the ball in. We are trying to look (for a striker) but this window is very funny, very difficult (to find) a striker who can come in and make an impact, but we are hoping that before the window closes we will have that striker," Botlhasitse said after the weekend's loss.
The team lost its top goalscorer from last season, Christopher Lemme, to Rollers. This has left veteran, Kenanao Kgetholetsile, Ghanaian, Emmanuel Agyei, and Morgan Gaseitsiwe to shoulder the goalscoring duties. At press time, the team had not found their net buster. In 17 games, Systems have found the back of the net on just 11 occasions. They will carry their goalscoring hopes to the Lucara Stadium in Letlhakane where the home side, Orapa United, lies in wait. The Ostriches are playing catch-up after missing a couple of league games due to their CAF Confederations Cup adventure. The Ostriches are in the bottom half and are fresh from a midweek draw against Nico United. Mogomotsi Mpote has returned to the side and they will go into the weekend's tie with an extra boost of confidence from a coach they have enjoyed much success under.
The FNB Premiership's 17th round of games will see much of the action take place in the northern parts of the country. On Saturday afternoon, the Palapye Stadium will host a clash between Morupule Wanderers and Flamengo Santos as Nico United take on Mochudi Centre Chiefs at the Sam Sono Stadium. The Old Francistown City Council Stadium hosts a mouth-watering clash between leaders, TAFIC and reigning champions, Jwaneng Galaxy. Sua Flamingoes are at home at the Sowa Town Council Stadium as they take on Matebele FC whilst Rollers host VTM at the Royal Aria Stadium. On Sunday afternoon, Extension Gunners and Chadibe FC clash at the Lobatse Sports Complex whilst BDF XI and GU do battle at the BPSC Stadium.
