The new Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) competition, the Super League will kick-off tomorrow (Thursday) evening, with the organisers outlining strict rules for the players.

The Super League will mark the start of the 2022 table tennis season. The Super League will run until April. The league games will be played Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays over the three months until the competition, which is only open to players in the top eight of each of the men and women’s BTTA rankings, ends. To ensure the smooth running of the competition the Super League committee introduced penalties. Players will be fined P200 for failing to honour games, or the player can be expelled from the league if they fail to pay the fine.

There is also a P20 late arrival fine for players, umpires and referees. The fines are to be paid within seven days and failure to pay will result in expulsion from the league. The Super League has received a P27,000 sponsorship from Phoenix Assurance Botswana. The winners of the league in each category will get P5,000 while second place is guaranteed P3,000. Players who finish third will take home P1,500 each. There is also remuneration for the referees and umpires, which the BTTA did not disclose.
