Didier Gomes da Rosa, the French man tipped to be the new Zebras coach, will be on a short-term deal with the express purpose of taking the national side to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals and the 2026 World Cup competition.

Da Rosa is expected to be in charge for six months but subject to renewal. Sources told Mmegi Sport that da Rosa will arrive in the country in time for the start of the World Cup qualifiers on November 13. Botswana will play back-to-back home assignments against Mozambique and Guinea respectively. "It could be as early as this week, but the coach is expected to be in charge of the team when they face Mozambique," the source said.

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) fired coach, Mogomotsi 'Teenage' Mpote this week, unhappy with the direction the team was taking. Mpote was appointed substantive coach last year in November after months in temporary charge. The association said it would announce Mpote's replacement in due course, with sources indicating the formal notification of the announcement could come as early as this week.
