A 36-year-old man from Masokola ward, Mmadinare, has handed himself over to the police after fleeing the scene where he fatally struck his 32-year-old girlfriend with a stone on Sunday morning.

According to Selebi-Phikwe Police Station commander, Superintendent Goitsemang Sekgabo, the suspect visited the girlfriend on Sunday morning and they quarrelled on allegations that she was cheating on her-a dispute that led to a fight. "Whilst fighting the suspect hit the girlfriend with a stone on the head and fled the crime scene leaving her unconscious," Goitsemang said. "Police received the report of the matter, rushed to the scene and took her to the Mmadinare clinic where she was certified dead on arrival by the doctors. We have been looking for the suspect but on Monday around noon, he handed himself to the police," he added. Sekgabo said the suspect is currently in police custody for investigations and will soon be arraigned for murder before Selebi-Phikwe Magistrate's Court. The police senior officer further pleaded with couples to seek help when having misunderstandings or leave the relationship when is no longer working rather than resorting to violence.
