Shaliaxwe wins 42.2km Diacore marathon

Namibian athlete, Jeremiah Shaliaxwe scooped position one in the 42.2km category at the Diacore Gaborone Marathon (DGM) held on Sunday morning.

He clocked 2:19:29 to finish ahead of Godiraone Nthompe with a 2:21:09 time. Folavio Sehohle came third in a time of 2:23:01. The annual event attracted multitudes from diverse countries who took part in different categories including the 4km fun run. The event also included 21.1 half marathon as well as 10km race. In the women’s category (42.2km), Sheila Saina scooped the first position and clocked 2:44:18 time in the process.

She was followed by Gladys Cheruiyot with a 2:59:41 time. while Abigael Jerop finished third in 3:02:16. In the 21.1km half marathon, Sibusiso Nzima arrived first at the finishing point, clocking 1:05:33 while Abel Chibanda came second time with a time of 1:05:40. Sesebo Matlapeng clocked 1:06:09 and finished third in the men’s category. Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Kefilwe Galeitsiwe finished first followed by Lydiah Koech and Boikutsho Bakha in positions two and three respectively. In the 10km race, Dawit Adebe finished ahead of everyone in the men’s category, clocking 0:30:20 while Patience Murowe beat all the women competitors with 0:35:53 time.
