Title fight: GU and Chiefs have all to play for PIC: GU
The pair is part of a six-team assembly chasing the title as the FNB Premiership enters the final third of the campaign. Chiefs, in sixth, need to boost their title hopes with a win over fourth-placed Reds with just five points separating the two sides. The two join leaders Township Rollers, second-placed TAFIC, reigning champions, Jwaneng Galaxy and Sua Flamingoes in the 2024–2025 FNB Premiership title race. Chiefs’ coach, Pontsho Moloi was in action in 2009 in that championship decider against GU that has lingered long in the memories of the fans.
In a clash played on the final day of the season, the Reds snatched the title from the jaws of a then-on-form Magosi side. Moloi knows a win against his former employers will enhance their title charge. Since his return to Chiefs, Moloi is unbeaten in four games but the wins have been hard to come by. In four league games, Chiefs have played to three draws and secured a single win. They have conceded just once. The team’s January recruits are proving to be a good purchase with attacking midfielder, Razeen Benett opening his Chiefs’ account in a midweek draw against Jwaneng Galaxy. Moloi will face GU for the first since his departure last month. Bulgarian tactician, Dimitar Pantev, has made an impressive start to life with The Reds. Pantev secured three consecutive wins before the midweek defeat to Flamingoes.
