According to insiders, Setete, who previously held the post of competitions manager, began his consultancy role early this month. He reportedly officiated at a BFA event in Maun recently.
The association usually announces senior appointments but has not issued a statement about Setete’s return. Mmegi has also established that Setete’s contract is for three years.
Sources have further said Setete will oversee the BFA’s reset agenda and the construction of football pitches that are financed by FIFA across the country. This week, the BFA CEO Mfolo Mfolo refused to shed light on the reported arrival of Setete at Lekidi. “I cannot disclose information to that effect,” was Mfolo’s written response to Mmegi Sport concerning reports that Setete had returned to the association. Setete also declined to comment on his return and referred this publication to the BFA CEO.
Last month there was speculation Setete will return to the association. Then, Mfolo said he could not rule out the possibility but said that the association will make a formal announcement on staffing issues if there were any. The three men were suspended after allegedly playing a role in the improper registration of Rollers defender Onkarabile Ratanang.
The BFA later said Setete asked for clemency and was pardoned, something that earned him the right to return to football administration. Rollers officials were cleared of wrongdoing. The return of Setete is seen as a strategy by BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti to consolidate his campaign for a third successive term ahead of the National Executive Committee elections next year.
There are reports Setete and Letshwiti had a huge fall out but insiders claim that they have since reconciled. Setete aggressively campaigned for Letshwiti in all the two terms he had won. He is widely viewed as someone who resonates well with grassroots structures which is why Letshwiti reportedly wants him to drive his campaign.
In fact, early election results in some areas across the country, speak to large voter turnout which suggests that voters crowded at polling stations to decide appropriately. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) revealed that 80% of the 1,037,684 people who had registered to vote turned up to exercise their right. It’s unfortunate that at the time of cobbling this editorial comment, results had just started trickling in. We recognise that...
