Football's foot soldiers are usually overlooked for the plum positions at Lekidi Football Centre, but recently there was a shift.
Kago Mosinyi, who has been serving in various structures, was catapulted to the newly established position of Botswana Football Association's (BFA) chief operations officer (COO). It has been almost two decades for Mosinyi to serve the game in various capacities in the lower rungs, but his time has come. The historic appointment was confirmed a fortnight ago as Mosinyi etched his name in the association's 55-year history as the first ever BFA COO. The position is viewed as key in transforming local football under BFA president, Tariq Babitseng's administration. "I am deeply honoured and humbled to be entrusted with this role. Being the first COO of the BFA is not just a milestone for me personally but also a testament to the association's commitment to professionalising its operations. I see this as a call to serve football in Botswana at a higher level, and I am ready for the challenge," he said.
Mosinyi began his football administration journey in 2003 when he founded and ran an amateur football club, The Crowns Football Club. He told MmegiSport this week that the idea behind the formation of The Crowns FC was to create a platform for young talent to thrive and over the years they have built a system that nurtures players from the age of 13 until they become elite athletes. "It was at The Crowns that I truly learned the art of football administration; building a development side, managing players, and creating opportunities for growth," he said. Mosinyi is a well-traversed business administrator with the majority of his experience in the mobile and telecommunications industry. He has vast experience in operations management roles as he has held the position of head of operations at Nokia Cellphone Warehouse for BlackBerry mobile phones, and later as Reverse Logistics Manager for Samsung's 3G Mobile. "These roles sharpened my strategic and operational management skills," he said.
