Swedish-based attacking midfielder, Ethany Mahoto who is eligible to play for both Botswana and Namibia, says he will choose the country that wants him more.

Mahoto was called up by Namibia in 2020 and this week, Zebras coach, Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote named him in the Botswana squad preparing for an international friendly match against Angola on Thursday.

Talking to Mmegi Sport after his first training session with the Zebras today, Mahoto had praises for both Botswana and Namibia national team coaches, Mpote and Collin Benjamin respectively. “Both Namibia and Botswana are my countries. I was born in Francistown, Botswana and my mom is Namibian. I have relatives in Francistown, Maun and Kasane.

I have relatives in Namibia too,” he said. “I will play for the team that wants me the most because I love both countries the same and I know I will give everything to the country that gives me the chance,” Mahoto said
