Tributes have started pouring in for former Nico United striker, Tendai Ndoro who was found dead in his apartment in South Africa on Monday.
Ndoro, 40, was a feared striker who plied his trade for the Selebi-Phikwe side in the then be MOBILE Premier League and was runner-up to Moemedi 'Jomo' Moatlhaping in the golden boot race in 2011. At the end of the 2010/2011 season, he moved back to his native Zimbabwe where he played for Chicken Inn and continued his hot goal scoring form, before a switch to Mpumalanga Black Aces in South Africa. He made his big break when he signed for Orlando Pirates in 2015 where he became an instant hit.
Ndoro has a twin brother, Takudzwa who also made a name for himself in the Botswana top league playing for BMC (later Gilport Lions), BDF XI and Molepolole City. At press time, Nico had not issued a statement on Ndoro's death, but his former South African sides, Pirates and Ajax Cape Town led the tributes. "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former striker Tendai Ndoro. The club extend heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time," Pirates said in a statement.
Zimbabwe side, Highlanders based in Bulawayo where Ndoro grew up, also sent their message of condolences. "Highlanders Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former Orlando Pirates and Warriors striker, Tendai Ndoro. We extend our deepest condolences to the Ndoro family, friends, and the entire Zimbabwean football community for this tragic loss."
