Chadibe suffered a defeat from the penalty shootout after being held to a 0-0 draw in normal time by First Division side, BR Highlanders, on Saturday afternoon. They are currently sitting at position 15 on the log standings with 14 points from 21 games. Head coach, Chris Mwanza, said the FA Cup loss means they will now have to go back to the drawing board. "We still need to get as many points as possible for the upcoming games, even though there may be a FIFA break. We hope to be in the Premier League next year," he said.
Mwaanza also said they were just unfortunate to lose in the penalty shootout to BR Highlanders. Despite dominating possession in both the first and second half, Chadibe failed to get a goal in normal time and missing out on a chance to advance to the last 16 round. BR Highlanders coach, Wame Mokoke, on the other hand said they came as underdogs and that throughout the first 45 minutes, they were able to monitor the opponents’ attack. "We urged the team to maintain the momentum and keep the game scoreless for as long as possible during halftime. Chadibe FC were aiming for an early goal,” he added. According to Mokoke, Chadibe used their captain to attack from the back during the first half, and despite all of the attacks, they were able to hold off and keep the score at zero.
He noted that although it can be draining for players to concentrate on pressing, they managed to stay focused on the game until the very end. “We are here because of the penalties that we won against a team in Gumare which was not easy,” he added. He believes that the players can sell themselves better in the Orange FA. Highlanders will take on Matebele FC in the next round of the knockout competition.
