Chadibe FC finally registered a win over the weekend after a long time

FRANCISTOWN: Chadibe FC broke their FNB Premiership winless streak after a hard fought 2-1 victory over Nico United at the Francistown Council Stadium on Sunday.

The win was Chadibe’s first in the league after 18 games, which left them languishing in the relegation zone. Before the match, some opposition fans had dubbed Chadibe, Union Flamengo Santos and Extension Gunners as ‘relegation candidates’. Before their win against Majombolo over the weekend, Chadibe had only drawn eight games. The win against Nico has surely eased Chadibe’s relegation woes, something that was admitted by their coach, Chris Mwanza. Chadibe started the match against Nico like a house on fire and it was not surprising that they scored two goals through Malvern Moyo who was having a very good game.

Nico pulled one goal back also in the first half through Nigel Mlauzi. Nico came back strong in the second half but they were let down by profligacy, the same could also be said of Chadibe although the former had an upper hand over the latter. In a post match interview, Mwanza expressed delight at how his team applied themselves during the match. “This win is a springboard for great things to come. I have high hopes that we are going to win other games and retain our status in the premiership next season,” said Mwanza. However, Nico’s coach, Botshelo Mokgosi, was not happy about how the game ended. “If we lose week in and week out, it’s embarrassing. We regularly concede goals that were not supposed to have scored... In the second half, we came all out against our opponents without success,” said Mokgosi. Asked if he did not fear losing his job because the team is not producing the desired results, Mokgosi said: “Definitely, it happens that clubs part ways with their coaches if results are not coming. Why should clubs keep coaches when the results are not coming?” he asked rhetorically.

Even the Ombudsman has confirmed receipt of a report from a political party and a review of these complaints is now underway. That is a necessary first step. But it is only the beginning. The seriousness of the allegations demands urgency, transparency and clarity. The public is entitled to...
