Bayern Bulls have been crowned champions of G Wawa football tournament that was held at Diphetogo grounds in Gaborone West over the holidays.

Bulls defeated Atletico Devuka 5-4 in penalty shootout on Tuesday in the final. The champions pocketed P10, 000 while the runners up went home with P5, 000. The knockout tournament started on Saturday, comprising 16 teams, aimed at unearthing talent and fighting social ills in Gaborone West area.

Speaking to Mmegi Online following the end of the tournament, spokesperson for the event, Biza Maherero said he was happy about how everything panned out. “The tournament went well although we could not get a sponsor. One thing that I am happy about was that all our teams managed to keep time, which allowed the tournament to runs smoothly. We changed some rules and regulations about time keeping and it worked for us this time around. All the games finished on time,” he said.

Maherero also said that had they managed to secure a sponsor, that would have increased the prize money. He said going forward, they would like to find ways on how they can generate more income in order to increase the prize money. “We may have to increase entrance fees at the gates so that in the end, teams get to benefit a bit more than they do now,” he said. He also said in future, funds permitting, they would like to take part of the money and help in charity.
