Botswana Ladies Golf Union (BLGU) hopes to assemble a strong three-women squad to represent the country at the March 26-April 5 All Africa Games in Cairo, Egypt.

The tournament, which attracts 30 countries, is the biggest in the continent. Yesterday, BLGU announced a team of six players who will be trimmed to three. In an interview with Mmegi Sport, BLGU President Nina Cloete said the six players would go through vigorous training and the coaches would select the best three. "We have selected six players for training but we would finally choose the best three to go to Egypt," said Cloete. The two accompanying managers are yet to be announced. Men's senior national team manager Joseph Marudu has been given the responsibility to guide the women before they find a coach, said Cloete.

The six players hoping to make the squad include Connie Paul, who is currently based in South Africa, Tracy Marudu, of Sowa Golf Club, Midge Tweed, from Selebi-Phikwe, and the Gaborone-based trio of Sandra Huges, Tiny Tlhakwane and Kelly Barker. Cloete said Paul has been playing very competitive golf with her South African counterparts. They are expected home this weekend.
