A South African event management company, VWV has been engaged to coordinate the official opening and closing ceremonies of the Africa Youth Games in Gaborone at a cost of P8 million.

Botswana Africa Youth Games Organising Committee (BAYGOC) chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho said after inviting tenders, they realised that local companies did not have experience to do the job. However, he said their agreement with VWV is such that locals must benefit from the arrangement.  The company will procure equipment locally except in cases where this is not possible. “The company’s major role will be coordinating, while most or all other people involved will be locals,” Serufho said. But if VWV is not satisfied with locals, they have the right to bring expatriates to impart knowledge to Batswana, which could be beneficial in future.

VWV successfully managed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. The company has worked in over 20 countries with clients in Africa, Europe, Middle East and United States of America (USA). It boasts a record of 102 awards in less than 10 years.
