Rugby team leaves for Cameroon CAR tourney

The national rugby team, the Vultures, leaves for West Africa tomorrow (Friday) morning for the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) tournament, which starts on June 20 in Cameroon.

Initially, the team consisted of more than 30 players but has been trimmed to 24 after a month-long training camp. Botswana is expected to play its first game on Tuesday against Senegal whilst the next fixture is scheduled for June 25.

National team coach Ivor Greaves said it was important for them to win both games. "Each game is a knockout and it determines which position you are going to end," he said. The tournament will feature four countries, hosts Cameroon, Senegal, Zambia and Botswana. Last year Botswana finished last after loosing the first two games.
