Rollers, GU unpaid after HeForShe participation

Rollers and GU are still waiting for payment from the HeForShe tournament organisers

The International Working Group of Women and Sport (IWG) and Township Rollers are pointing accusing fingers at each other over the delay in payment to the teams that took part in the HeForShe tournament held in March.

Rollers and Gaborone United (GU) women’s sides played a curtain raiser to the main match between Platinum Stars and Rollers men’s sides. Rollers women’s team was to be paid P20,000 after defeating their cross town rivals, GU 1-0 in that match. GU were to pocket P10,000 for their participation. However, up to now, both sides are yet to receive their payments.

While Rollers point fingers at IWG for the delay, IWG on the other hand blame Rollers who they say were partners in organising the tournament.  IWG marketing and public relations manager, Boitumelo Kenosi told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they were in partnership with Township Rollers who were responsible for the technical aspect of the tournament. “IWG is not responsible for crediting the prize money. Township Rollers were the ones responsible for the technical aspect,” Kenosi said. “Therefore, they should have paid the teams by now.”
