Waiting for the solution: Fans will hope the boardroom matters do not spill into the pitch

A disgruntled group in the fight for the control of beMOBILE Premier League giants, Township Rollers has threatened to seek the Botswana Football Association's (BFA) intervention in the matter.

A group led by Spencer Mmui recently went to court seeking to nullify the running of the club by Township Holdings, which is the club’s commercial arm. “We have had meetings before with the current executive committee and if we do not reach a common ground we will seek the intervention from the BFA,” Mmui told Mmegi Sport yesterday. He said his group met the current committee members, Walter Kgabung and Khumoetsile Masonya, to resolve the impasse that followed the recent court ruling. He said efforts to take the matter to the BFA were motivated by the court ruling. “We have spoken to other stakeholders including the club’s elders and one should remember all our actions are in line with the court’s judgement,” he said. The court ruled that the club should be run by the society’s committee and not as a business entity. During the August 20 meeting with Kgabung and Masonya, it was suggested that the two parties should form an interim committee but the meeting that was to elect the committee never took place. Mmui said the investor, Jagdish Shah has been given assurance that he has a major role to play in the club. “A meeting was held with the investor where he was given assurance that the club had approved his coming on board in principle, and that the club does need his assistance and would like to continue with it, albeit in a manner that would not be in contravention of the judgement, the club constitution, the Societies Act and any other relevant statutes,” Mmui said. But Masonya, in an interview disputed that Shah had been given assurances that he will remain part of the club. Masonya said Shah could only remain part of the club as a sponsor, but nothing has been communicated to him. He said his faction rejected a proposal by Mmui’s camp to dissolve the committee, but suggested the filling of vacant positions. “There are vacant positions in the executive committee which we suggested they can fill,” he said. Both sides want Shah on board, but they would like to resolve the issue of the committee first.
