The Referees' Commission has averted a possible strike by women match officials over poor remuneration.

It is reported that women referees threatened to stop officiating until their demands for improved remuneration are met. The Referees Commission secretary, Marvellous Shangare said that the officials have complained about payment and the issue has been addressed.

"There were issues of referees complaining about their payments. But it is something that was addressed on Monday," he said. He slammed referees who run to the media when they are not happy. "Why do they want to wash their dirty linen in public?" he wondered. Shangare said the match officials should channel their concerns to the Referees Commission because it is responsible for their welfare. There have been reports that referees do not attend pre-match training but still officiate on match day because of the limited number of female referees. Other reports indicate that women referees had formed their own camp, separate from their male counterparts.
