New karate club holds first competition

The Kabelo Ogomoditse Molefe (KOM) Karate Club will host its first Junior Karate Championship at the Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA) Hall tomorrow (Saturday).

The championship will also mark the official launch of the club. The inaugural competition will bring together children aged between six and 17 from different styles and clubs.  KOM instructor, Molefe told Mmegi Sport that he decided to host the championship to gauge the strength of his charges. He said his students have participated in only two tournaments, the recent being one that was held in Palapye.

"My charges performed quite well at the tournament as eight of them came back with 15 medals," he said. The first-dan black belt instructor said the tournament would help prepare karatekas for the Botswana Games to be held next month. The Championship contest will be individual kata and kumite, and team kata and team kumite.
