SELEBI-PHIKWE: Selebi-Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) has passed a motion to re-name its only stadium after the late soccer icon, Samuel Sono who passed away 10 years ago. Currently known as the SPTC Stadium, the facility will change its name in honour of Sono who is famed for his contribution to Selebi-Phike and Botswana football.

He is the founder of Premier League club, FC Satmos that was initially called Copper Chiefs. There have been calls since Sono’s death to rename the Selebi-Phikwe Stadium after him.

At some point, a motion on the matter was presented in council, but did not pass muster. But things have changed after a new motion by councillor Lekang Mukokomani sailed through.
